Coming 2 America gets a PG-13 rating from the MPAA, so it won’t be as edgy as the R-rated original.
Coming 2 America has been one of the most awaited movies of 2021. Many fans have been clamoring to see the sequel to the 1988 classic, but when it’s released, young audiences may not be able to see the film. The Motion Picture Association ranking of the film seemed to signal that viewpoint. With that said, for particular reasons, Coming 2 America got a PG-13 rating.
The sequel would go a milder path, bearing a PG-13 certificate, if the original film gets an R rating for its sex and language (via ComicBook.com). The PG-13 rating from the MPAA is for “crude and sexual content, language and drug content.”
In the teaser, James Earl Jones, who returns as the father of Akeem, says: “You must heed my words before I’m gone, my son. Now you will be king. But the throne must pass to a male heir. Akeem, it appears, you have a son. He must be found.”
The film also stars Leslie Jones, Jermaine Fowler, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Shari Headley, Wesley Snipes, and James Earl Jones, along with Murphy and Hall. Teyana Taylor and Paul Bates will also make appearances.
