Darksaber From Star Wars. What is it? The Illusive History and Weird Origins 3

So what is the Darksaber? First off here is your SPOILER ALERT!!! This article includes The Mandalorian spoilers for the first season, as well as Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

During the rule of the Old Republic, Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian to ever join the Jedi Order, created The Darksaber. At that moment or since the saber itself was distinct from every other lightsaber. The blade, like a normal sword, is pointed. Its emitter was thin and delicate, mimicking a sword blade. The blade has distinctive black energy and is considerably shorter than most lightsabers, however, depending on the emotions of its user, items such as its size and strength will change.

The Saber, fundamentally, is like any other lightsaber. At first, it’s very heavy to wield, as Kanan Jarrus points out to Sabine Wren in Star Wars Rebels, but it begins to lighten once someone gets attuned to the blade. Plus, just as lightsabers do, the Darksaber can cut through any object; but while it is merely another lightsaber, what makes it special is its color and how it responds to materials.

Very little is known about Tarre Vizsla. What is known is that he was a revered legendary figure on Mandalore. He became one of its rulers. The legacy of Vizsla was so well-respected that his Darksaber became the epitome of symbolism to the strength and power of the Mandalorians. All rally behind and support the leader who wields it.

I didn’t know Mandalorians developed a type of lightsaber.

We didn’t, this was one of a kind. Legend tells that it was created over a thousand years ago by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi Order. After his passing, the Jedi kept the saber in their temple. That was until members of the House Vizsla snuck in and liberated it. They used the saber to unify the people and strike down those who would oppose them. At one time, they ruled all of Mandalore wielding this blade. This saber is an important symbol to that house and respected by the other clans.

The owner of the sabre was widely considered to be the legitimate chief of Clan Vizsla, one of the largest clans on the world, and the leader of the mercenary band of the Death Watch. The only way to become the Darksaber’s master was to win it from its previous owner, according to Mandalorian cultural lore.

In the form of Darth Maul, who took an interest in the Mandalorians around the time of the Clone Wars, this law of strength ultimately led to a very unique sort of complications. Maul challenged Pre Vizsla, the Darksaber’s owner, and the Death Watch’s leader, to a duel. The Darksaber became him when Maul won. Hard for some Fandom to follow.
