Chameleon (actual name Dmitiri Smerdyakov) is Kraven’s illegitimate half-brother and is known as a master of disguise, capable of mimicking anybody. Chameleon has impersonated Captain America, Bruce Banner, Spider-Man, and other notable heroes in Marvel comics. Hechinger co-stars with Aaron Taylor Johnson as the titular Kraven, with whom Chameleon has a contentious relationship due to a background of parental neglect.

Born into Russian aristocracy, Sergei Kravinoff, a.k.a. Kraven the Hunter, is an obsessive big-game hunter invented by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and introduced as a Spider-Man adversary in “The Amazing Spider-Man” #15 (1964). Kravinoff began his career using traditional hunting tools, but over time he developed a propensity for taking down large creatures with his bare hands, as depicted in the original comics. Kravinoff took a herbal concoction after encountering a Voodoo witch doctor named Calypso, which boosted his physiological powers, giving him the force, speed, and senses of a jungle cat. The elixir also prolonged his life, preserving his health and vitality for many years.

Kraven the Hunter Movie will be released in theaters on January 13, 2023, as part of Sony’s Spider-Man universe, joining the Venom and Jared Leto’s Morbius franchises. J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier, A Most Violent Year) is directing, and Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man, Uncharted) and Richard Wenk (Lethal Weapon 5, The Equalizer) are scripting.
