Indie Spotlight – Introduction & Highlights From June 8th, 2020

Hello everyone, my name is Alexander Trapp. I’m an independent creator on YouTube who creates original animated web shows. Today, however, I’m not here to talk about my YouTube channel. I want to bring the indie spotlight to other independent creators who are trying to get the word out about their creative projects. I’ve been doing this for about two years now by making use of Twitter to reach as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. My promotion was originally known as Patreon Monday but then changed it to Indie Monday to help reach a wider association of independent creators.

I know all too well how difficult it is to be an indie creator and to try and promote your own work. You have to be one part artist, one part business-person. I saw many of my own friends struggle with the process of promoting their crowdfunding pages, videos, and projects. So I took the initiative to create this promotion and to spread it as far and as wide as I could. Why Monday? To help creators and their supporters to get a great start to their week of creativity and to help boost their prospects of finishing what they start. It’s taken time, but the promotion is reaching and helping to create incentives for many independent creators to join in and promote their works. Now I’ve teamed up with Joshua Sexton, the creator of Geek Impulse to help spread the promotion of Indie Monday even further!

So each week, we will highlight the efforts of a select few creators from the Indie Monday Twitter thread and showcase their work here on Geek Impulse for you to discover and hopefully support! So with that out of the way, let’s highlight these creators in the fields of gaming, art, and content creation!

Indie Monday Highlight 1

First up we The Affro Show. Affro has honed his craft in gaming commentary, reviews, and vlogging for the past four years. This past Indie Monday he showcased a great video about Real Bout Fatal Fury Special on the Sega Saturn, a retro console that many have fond memories of. The video itself goes over many aspects of the game, from its mechanics to its sound effects and more. It’s nine and a half minutes of your time that will grab your attention if you love gaming and retro games.

Indie Monday Highlight 2

For this week’s art highlight I’d like to bring attention to this project by Blaster Comics called The Ultimate Crusaders. Taking inspiration from early 2000s cartoons like Samurai Jack and Codename K.I.D.S. Next Door, the project is described as this right from its Indiegogo campaign page;

“THE ULTIMATE CRUSADERS is a 36-page sci-fi, action-adventure comic book series based on the mid 90’s and early 2000’s television shows and comic books. The story revolves around a young, socially awkward boy genius named Orion Williams and his best friend, Claire Rosemary, who work together to build a massive mechanical suit in the hopes of discovering the whereabouts of Orion’s father, who has been lost in space for nearly three years.

In the midst of their constant failures; however, the duo witnesses a space shuttle crash into Earth’s surface, revealing a mysterious, but powerful artifact inside. Soon after this discovery, they are relentlessly tracked down by a savage alien race known as, The Blackened, who have laid waste to multiple planets across the galaxy.

Now, with the artifact in tow, the duo is forced to join a ragtag group of alien freedom fighters known as THE ULTIMATE CRUSADERS in an effort to prevent The Blackened from destroying every other race except their own, while uncovering the mystery of Orion’s father’s disappearance.”

Be sure to visit Blaster Comic’s Indiegogo campaign page and support The Ultimate Crusader’s project! The artwork for the comic looks fantastic, the story looks intriguing, and I believe it is an indie comic worth your time!

Indie Monday Highlight 3

Lastly, I’d like to bring attention to this fun video by g8ter (pronounced like gator) byte where she tries Vegan Ice Cream. It’s a video that garnered a lot of reactions of fellow viewers immediately craving to have ice cream afterward, so VIEWER BEWARE. You may be stricken by a terrible craving to go get some ice cream of your own afterward. You have been warned!

G8ter has a fun channel where she vlogs about her life, product reviews, the occasional challenge she likes to take on, and so much more! Subscribe today!

Indie Monday Highlight 4

I couldn’t just leave you all hanging like that. So I wanted to show you this amazing indie horror game called ALIEN SCUMBAGS from Monster Finger Games. I’ve played this game several times over the past year and have supported it by buying it on GameJolt. Now the game will be releasing on Steam on June 17th, and it is not to be missed!

If you love platform shooters like Mega Man and a healthy dose of scares thrown in, this is the game for you! Check out the steam page for Alien Scumbags today!

And that’s it for the Indie Monday Highlight from this past week! This was just a small sampling of the content that was shown from a group of amazing creators. If you want to see the rest of what the promotion had to offer from this past week, click the link below and help to spread the word of Indie Monday by telling your friends about it! Share it with other independent creators that you know!

If you want to join the Indie Monday Promotion and Showcase the next time it’s hosted, or you just want to help spread the word of when it takes place, be sure to follow my Twitter and YouTube channels. As the name of the promotion suggests, it takes place every Monday. I would be happy to have you there. My channel tries to focus just on the atmosphere of fun and creativity, and I try to keep things relatively drama-free. We focus on the positive and help bring the indie spotlight to amazing creators who are trying to have their voices be heard.

Thank you for your time. Remember, independent creators are the future of entertainment!
