Too Bad For Literacy Because Every one Read the Articles

One small step for convenience stores, one moderate leap for women in Japan. The 2020 Olympics is motivating Japan to make some seriously needed changes, in order to bring the country up to speed by the time the expected  40 million tourists make their way to Tokyo in a year and a half’s time.

Many changes, like adding safety barriers to the train platforms, are a health and safety necessity when the amount of people majorly increases. However, some changes are more intended to improve Japan’s image, and hopefully make the country less shocking to its international visitors. Japan is incredibly famous for its bizarre porn industry – there’s so much and it’s often very off-the-wall, yet it’s blurry. But a lot of visitors would likely be more shocked by the amount of explicit porn available on the shelves in convenience stores, on shelves easily accessible by anyone.

Currently, the three major stores have committed to stop selling it: Lawson, Family Mart, and 7-Eleven. Other smaller stores have not made a comment yetbut might well follow suit in the future. A late night convenience store visit will show you the main demographic for these sales: middle age and senior males. Given that there is so much available on the internet, one tweeter notes that computer literacy might actually increase in the older generation.

So there are bonuses for all age groups and genders – less porn readily available to desensitize the young before they even know what they’re seeing, less daily reminders to women just how far behind Japan is in it’s equality, and the elderly will likely be able to access other exciting content (keeping them from being lonely as they see out the most discriminatory of the living generations.) What do you think of this move by convenience stores? Will it make the stay for the 2020 visitors more pleasant, or not make a difference? Let us know in the comments below!
