The Matrix actor will portray an eternal fighter who fights wars that are “too brutal and dangerous” for others. Keanu Reeves’ schedule is about to get busier. Netflix revealed on Monday that it would produce a film and anime series based on the actor’s BRZRKR comic. According to the streaming service, Reeves will have a significant role in both the film and the series.
A tweet from one of Netflix’s official accounts read, “Exciting news.” “Netflix is working on a live-action film and an anime series based on Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR, a brutally epic story about an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year fight through the ages. Reeves will make, star in, and voice the animated film.”
Everything we know about the upcoming film and series with Keanu Reeves
Reeves developed the idea and story in collaboration with artist Ron Garney and Eisner-nominated comic books writer Matt Kindt, who has written for Marvel, DC, and Valiant and is the founder of the creator-owned comic Mind MGMT.
The comic first debuted on Kickstarter last year, generating a record-breaking sum of money, before being released by BOOM! Studios earlier this month. The comic’s initial issue sold over half a million copies, which is remarkable for any individual issue these days, but particularly so for a non-superhero title which paved the way for a big franchise production on Netflix.
The feature film adaptation of BRZRKR will be a direct adaptation of the 12-issue series by Reeves, Kindt, and Garney, while the anime will delve deeper into the BRZRKR universe. Last year, Reeves filmed The Matrix 4, which will be released on December 22, 2021. The actor’s next project is John Wick 4, which is set to begin shooting this spring. WME, Sugar23, and Ziffren Brittenham portray him.
