The secret story of a 12-year-old’s quest to become the world’s greatest supervillain will be told in Minions the Rise of Gru, which will be released next summer. On July 1st, 2022, it will be released in theaters. Check out the new teaser trailer below! Taraji P. Henson, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, and Danny Trejo are among the new cast members. Russell Brand, Michelle Yeoh, and Julie Andrews also star in the film.
This film, set in the 1970s, reintroduces a younger Gru with a plot to join the Vicious 6, a supervillain supergroup. Gru interviews to join Vicious 6 after their commander, famed fighter Wild Knuckles, is ousted. It doesn’t go well (to put it mildly), and it only gets worse as Gru outwits them and becomes the sworn enemy of the ultimate evil. When Gru is on the run, he seeks advice from an unlikely source: Wild Knuckles himself and learns that even bad guys need a little aid from their pals.
Minions The Rise of Gru
It was expected to debut in 2020, and we even showed the first trailer last year. However, it has been kept for the past two years and will reopen in July 2022. More trailers are on their way. Minions: The Rise of Gru is developed by imaginative Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime partners Janet Healy and Chris Renaud and is directed by the franchise’s original creators.
The film is directed by Kyle Balda (Despicable Me 3, Minions), and co-directed by Brad Ableson (The Simpsons) and Jonathan del Val (The Secret Life of Pets films). It showcases Pierre Coffin’s iconic voice as the Minions, as well as a killer 1970s soundtrack courtesy of legendary Grammy-winning music producer Jack Antonoff.
Synopsis Minions The Rise of Gru:
Gru (Steve Carell, reprising his role) grew up in the suburbs during the 1970s, amid a flurry of feathered hair and flared trousers. Gru, a fan of the Vicious 6 supervillain supergroup, devises a strategy to become bad enough to join them. Fortunately, he has the help of his loyal minions, who help him cause mayhem. Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto—a new Minion with braces and a strong desire to please—combine their talents as they and Gru construct their first lair, test their first weapons, and complete their first missions.
Kyle Balda (The Lorax, Minions, Despicable Me 3) directs Minions: The Rise of Gru, which is co-directed by Brad Ableson (“Good Vibes,” “Legends of Chamberlain Heights”) and Jonathan del Val (The Secret Life of Pets 2). Cinco Paul designed the characters for this film. Chris Meledandri, Janet Healy, and Chris Renaud produced the film. Beginning July 1st, 2022, Universal will distribute Illumination’s Minions The Rise of Gru in theaters worldwide.
