Tokyo — Many people are aware of Akihabara. What most geeks/nerds/otaku around the world are not aware of is Nakano Broadway. This is the district for enthusiast of pop culture. There are dozens of manga, anime and retro collectors shops. There are 5 floors and boast 300 shops and restaurants. The location sits at the end of the Nakano Sun Mall shopping street which is also adjacent to the north exit of JR Nakano Station.
In 1980 Mandrake Inc. opened stores at the center. The center has since evolved into a place for otaku and other enthusiasts. There are items from cosplay to old movie posters, to figurines, plastic models, used books and toys. You can also find a great deal of manga and anime goods to fill your home with.
On the first floor, you will find normal people stuff. This consists of clothing stores like Uniqlo, shoes and second-hand products. This level, to be honest, is the most boring one in my opinion. The basement level is where locals shop mostly. You can find food here. Upon descending into the basement level you will smell the grilled meat skewers. Here you can expect to find ramen shops and some delicious cheap okonomiyaki.
Awesome Cafe? Yes!
You can visit Bar Zingaro. It is a cafe created by international pop artist Mr. Takashi Murakami. It is located on the second floor. Here you can expect to find flower-themed artwork displayed from the artist as well as other items for purchase such as clothing. It is a cafe after all so you can also order from the menu. The Bar Zingaro menu has coffee, black tea and several kinds of various alcohol to choose from.
