According to Entertainment Weekly, the film is going to be an original sequel to the original Ghostbusters franchise, or at the very least the movie will be set in the universe established by the first two films. The writing and directing will ignore the events of the 2016 reboot from director Paul Feig. The movie is set to start filming in a few months and currently has a 2020 release date.
“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters
fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.” Reitman ( Entertainment Weekly )
