Nintendo Direct E3 2019 Highlights

We sat down to watch E3 from Tokyo at 1 am Wednesday morning to give you Nintendo Direct E3 Highlights, and after the first Dragon Quest news sections, the Smash Bros. announcement, the Bowser jokes, and even latest The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening trailer, we were wondering what ending could be more hype. We weren’t disappointed. Warning, spoilers if you haven’t seen it yet.

It was kind of a given that Dragon Quest would show up in Smash Bros. With all the DQ hype surrounding Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Dragon Quest 11 finally making its way to Switch, we were expecting that one.

We’d been teased once before with Banjo Kazooie so we didn’t dare hope. But that setup, the Jiggy, and that second bait and switch was just too much. Nice one Nintendo.

What else can’t we wait for?

We learned during the Nintendo Direct E3 2019 that Ni no Kuni on Switch will be gorgeous. I am hoping they bring the magic casting system from the DS as a bonus feature, but I might be optimistic.

Spyro coming to Switch (pictured above) is exactly what I wanted… before I bought a PS4. But the more that play it the better I guess, so not going to knock it.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 makes some serious gameplay improvements, solving a few pet peeves from previous games like not being able to do jack about new ghosts. Oh, and Gooigi.

ALL the Mana games on Switch and Trials of Mana is going to be a good chunk of new (and old) adventuring. (Pictured above)

The Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the Necrodancer is a gorgeous marrying of indie and AAA titles. And you can play as Zelda! I’m calling it now, here on Geek Impulse, the sequel to Breath of the Wild – I reckon Zelda will be playable.

Nintendo overall this year has taken on a lot more dark pieces. From the creepy BOTW trailer to the announcement of Empire of Sin. Nintendo has always been on point with innovation and knowing when to release new vs retro, so I’m hoping this dark turn isn’t a sign of our times.

Either way, if you’re a classic Nintendo IP fan, or a retro games remastered fan, this year’s E3 is promising something for everyone. Including a bad-ass collector’s edition of Link’s Awakening.
