Sixteen years after his death at the age of 73, Pat Morita (mister Miyagi), star of The Karate Kid and honorary star of Cobra Kai’s Netflix hit, is mostly remembered for his appearance in the Karate Kid movies as the Okinawan karate master who mentors Daniel LaRusso and Julie Pierce.
Pat Morita documentary by director Kevin Derek, explores the mister Miyagi actor from his childhood battle with spinal tuberculosis to his early days as a stand-up comic to his subsequent battles with drug and alcohol abuse. The film examines the actor’s exceptional life and diverse career. The documentary includes Morita’s archival interviews as well as new discussions with his many costars.
These include Ralph Macchio and William Zabka of The Karate Kid, Marion Ross and Henry Winkler of Happy Days, and Larry Miller and Tommy Chong, fellow comics.
