Quibi Got The OK To Produce Tomie Live-action

Tomie, a series based on Junji Ito’s cult hit horror manga series of the same name, was given a green light by Quibi. According to Deadline who got the exclusive, Adeline Rudolph is attached to star in the title role. The series will be made by director-producer Alexandre Aja (High Tension), writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (Aquaman), Sony Pictures Television, and Universal Studio Group division UCP. Hiroki Shirota is co-producer.

Synopsis by Johnson-Mcgoldrick:

Tomie is the story of a beautiful high school girl (Rudolph) who goes missing and pieces of her body are discovered scattered around a small town. But what starts out as a murder mystery turns into something even more horrific.

In the Netflix show The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale) and Greg Berlanti, Rudolph will at present be seen as Agatha. Adeline had been a successful model in the markets of Europe, Korea, and Hong Kong before acting. She is repped by Luber / Roklin and repped by the APA. It was just announced yesterday that the Netflix shows has been cancelled after this next season run.

Tomie wiki: “Tomie Kawakami was murdered on her way back from a school trip. Her body was found in dozens of pieces and the killer hasn’t been caught. However, Tomie returns to school as if nothing happened.”

Tomie was published in English by ComicsOne on April 4, 2005. VIZ Media republished the series in a single hardcover omnibus on December 20, 2016. The story Painter was also published by VIZ Media as part of Shiver: Junji Ito Selected Stories. The series was also published in Polish by Japonica Polonica Fantastica in two-volume edition in February and in May 2015, respectively; and in Spanish by Ediciones La Cúpula, but discontinued after the second volume, and will be republished by ECC Comics in August 2016.
