Anime Expo Cinema Nights is a live-action film festival that brings the best new and vintage anime films to theaters around North America. AX Cinema Nights will connect devoted fans together for immersive and unforgettable community interactions, harnessing the brand power of Anime Expo, North America’s largest Japanese culture convention.

“One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned over the course of Anime Expo’s 31-year history is that anime has a tremendous ability for bringing people together,” said Ray Chiang, CEO of the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA). “That’s why we’re so excited to collaborate with Iconic Events and Eleven Arts to kick off AX Anime Expo Cinema Nights with Ryoma The Prince of Tennis and give anime fans across the country even more opportunities to grow their communities and share their love of the artistic medium with new and old friends.”

Ryoma the Prince of Tennis

The film is based on the famed manga series The Prince of Tennis and its sequel, The New Prince of Tennis, written and illustrated by legendary manga creator Takeshi Konomi. It follows tennis prodigy Ryoma Echizen.

Ryoma is keen to improve his game and train in the United States after being inspired by his tennis champion father. However, they are sent back to the past, just as Ryoma’s father is about to play his final championship match at the US Open – when he was inexplicably forced to retire – in the thick of an epic tennis battle to save his classmate Sakuno from terrible criminals. Sing, dance, and play along with the groundbreaking 3D computer animation that brings The Prince of Tennis’ spectacular and colorful world to life on the big screen.
