Sailor Moon Eternal marks 25 years since the franchise last had a work that screened in theaters in Japan.
In Tuesday’s two-part Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal (Pretty Guardians Sailor Moon Eternal The MOVIE) anime film project, Toei began streaming a new clip from the second film. Inside the clip, it shows the Outer Senshi transformation sequences, and in particular, the first Hotaru Tomoe transformation sequence as Super Sailor Saturn, whose Super Transformation sequence has never been depicted in anime before, is intriguing.
The first film was originally expected to release in Japan on September 11, 2020, but due to the outbreak of the latest coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Japan, it was postponed to January 8, 2021. The first film debuted in the 9th spot. The second film will open on Thursday, February 11th.
According to Comic Natalie, Naoko Takeuchi, the original manga author, is credited with the original work and with supervision. To direct the two films, Chiaki Kon is returning from Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal: Season III. The characters are being developed by Kazuko Tadano, the character designer for the original Sailor Moon anime. The scripts are penned by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure TV anime for all five parts, Land of the Lustrous, PriPara). The film is being distributed by Toei. Alongside Toei Animation, Studio DEEN is co-producing the film.
According to Fandom, The “Super Form” transformations of the Outer Sailor Guardians are never seen in the anime. Their forms, however, only appear in the anime’s Stars arc when they power up because of the power of baby Hotaru.
