After meeting with John Caird, Hayao Miyazaki gives his blessing ( along with Spirited Away Soot Sprites ) to a project that has been in progress for four years.
In 2019, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, a classic Studio Ghibli anime, was adapted into kabuki. Now it has been confirmed that another film by director Hayao Miyazaki is being turned into a live-action stage version, and this time it’s his biggest hit, Spirited Away. We want to know who will be playing the Spirited Away Soot Sprites.
As you can see, I am a fan of Spirited away as well as the Spirited Away Soot Sprites. That is why I got this awesome tattoo. You can find me on social media @ilovetastyrice and my tattoo was done by Merry.souls.tattoos on Instagram.
So as you can tell from above I was excited to receive the work of creating this article about the adaptation. Helming the production is a British stage director and playwright John Caird, born in Canada, who will handle both the program’s script and direction. Perhaps primarily remembered as a director for Les Misérables, an original 1987 film. Caird has spent time working with Japanese actors as a director for stage plays in Japan, with his most current prominent project being Knight’s Story, which had its world premiere in Tokyo three years ago.
Kanna Hashimoto, a 22-year-old idol singer-turned-actress whose resume includes numerous appearances in live TV drama and anime film adaptations, such as Gintama, Empire, and Assassination Classroom, will be one-half of the pair. 23-year-old Mone Kamishiraishi, a singer and actress who was part of the cast for Caird’s Knight’s Story, will be the other actress stepping into Chihiro’s role. Both Pictured Below. No confirmation at this time about my favorite characters the Spirited Away Soot Sprites.
SPIRITED AWAY will be presented at Toho’s Imperial Theatre located at 3-1-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo from February through March 2022. The production will then tour Osaka (April), Fukuoka (May), Sapporo (June), Nagoya (June and July). I think I see one of the Spirited Away Soot Sprites in the poster. Hmm… Official Website here.
John Caird Says, “I share a belief in all the most dominant themes of Miyazaki’s work, themes that are at the core of the Sen To Chihiro world — care for the environment, reverence for nature, a belief in the force of the good spirits within us and the empowerment of young women and men to change the world for the better… I must have spent a thousand hours working on Sen To Chihiro and look forward to spending many thousands more.”
