Chris Hemsworth has a new look in Thor: Love and Thunder, one that is very loyal to Marvel Comics.
They are currently filming in Australia, and now some pictures have leaked from the set. The images, which were posted on social media, show Chris Hemsworth—in a vest very similar to Thunderstrike’s—Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, and Karen Gillan as Nebula.
If you look closely, you will see a crucial detail that has yet to make it into the films. Look at the top of Thor’s boots, which seem to have the criss-crossing yellow straps that have been a staple design of the comic book since its first appearance back in Journey Into Mystery #83 from 1962.
Chris Hemsworth’s look, at least in this scene, appears to be modeled after the Thor: Thunderstrike comic. Thunderstrike is a character established in the late-80s where Eric Masterson’s supporting character merged with Thor and took over the role for 30 issues. He also had a sweet goatee. At this point, however, the consequences for Love and Thunder are uncertain. You can look at the pictures below, but note that we don’t know any of the scenes and more context.
Taika Waititi, who also directed the last movie, Thor: Ragnarok, is directing Love and Thunder. After that, Waititi directed Jojo Rabbit and won the Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award. According to Fandom the release date as of now is May 6, 2022.
