With only three weeks until the grand opening, videos of the 18m-Tall Gundam robot moving and walking have captured the hearts of the internet. The Gundam Factory Yokohama was initially slated to open in October. The Covid-19 Virus slowed its debut. The new date of opening has been marked as December 19th.
The 18-meter tall figure towers over the Yamashita Futo Wharf which is located at the far end of Yamashita Park. This marks the first time in history that there will be a full-size Gundam that moves. It is a replica of the Mobile Suit Gundam Anime’s RX-78. Seeing it in its full operational status is jaw-dropping.
The facility has two section for patrons. The first is the Gundam Lab which has a museum style vibe. It showcases how the 18m-Tall Gundam was assembled. It also has an AR experience that puts you in the cockpit which surveys the landscape of the city. The second area is the Gundam Dock Tower. This area allows you to ascend up the scaffolding which surrounds the mecha suit and gets you an up close look and ideal for selfies.
A full-scale moving “Gundam” commemorating the 40th anniversary of the popular anime “Mobile Suit Gundam” was released to the press before it was exhibited in Yokohama City from December.
